Gibbs: “Makah, American barkentine, 699 tons, found bottom up, off Tillamook Head, October 24, 1888, eighteen days after leaving Port Discovery, Washington, for Sydney, Australia, with lumber. No sign of her crew of eleven was ever found and the remains of the six-year-old vessel were rendered a total loss. She was commanded by Captain Larsen.”
Marshall: “Makah 10/24/1888 Barkentine, 699 tons, built in 1882 at Port Blakely [WA] by Hall Bros. En route Portland-Australia under Captain Larsen. She was found bottom-up off Tillamook Head. 11 dead.”
Wilma: “On October 24, 1888, the barkentine Makah, washed up on Tillamook Head capsized. She had been en route from Port Discovery, Washington, to Sydney, Australia, with lumber. No sign of the crew of 11 was ever found.
