[1] Figure applies to “registration area” comprising 11 registration States (CT, DC, IN, ME, MA, MI, NH, NJ, NY, RI and VE, plus approximately 360 registration cities. The reason the total for the States and DC, below, is 136 and not 235 is because the breakouts for “heat and sunstroke” as a category do not extend to the “registration cities” in non-registrations states. Thus there were 99 heat deaths in registration cities in non-registration states.
