Narrative Information
Feb 6, Associated Press: “Boston, Feb 6 (AP) – The 21 missing members of crew of 27 of the fishing schooner Eleanor Nickerson of Boston, who apparently lost their lives when their ship was in collision with the Belgian liner Jean Jabot 80 miles southeast of Cape Sable, N. S., yesterday, were thrown into the water less than a minute after the crash, the coast guard was advised today.
“Headquarters of the eastern division of the guard was told by the commanding officer of the destroyer Cunningham,[1] which is speeding to the scene, that a radio message from the captain of the Jean Jabot had given him the meager outlines of the tragedy. The message said the collision occurred at 6.45 a m. m heavy weather and the schooner sank in less than 60 seconds. The Jean Jabot cruised the vicinity for two hours but found only six survivors.” (Fitchburg Sentinel, MA. “Liner Radios Facts About Sea Tragedy.” Feb 6, 1932, p. 1.)
