Jan 5, AP: “Adak, Aleutians. (Delayed) – (AP) – Thirteen servicemen and civilians, most of them homeward bound after long service in the rugged Aleutians, were killed before dawn December 29, when the air transport command C-47 plane carrying them crashed into a hillside and burned. An 11th air force spokesman said the plane was operated by civilian personnel and no aire force men were killed. Casualties included: Second Lt. Raymond S. Metz, Mineral Point, Wis., and Lt.
