Aug 30, AP: “St. Louis, Aug. 30 – (AP) – An explosion at the metals disintegrating company plant in suburban Shrewsbury yesterday resulted in the death of five employes and critical injuries to another. Cause of the explosion was not determined by company officials who said it originated in equipment in the yard of the plant. The company manufactures aluminum powder for the navy. The dead were Ray Ross, Norbert Albright, Henry Buschmoehle, Roscoe R. Conklin and Glenn S. Sweeney.” (Associated Press. “Explosion in War Plant Kills Five.” Sedalia Democrat, MO. 8-30-1945, p.4.)

Sep 8, AP: “St. Louis, Sept. 10 — (AP) – The sixth victim of the Aug. 22 blast at the Metals Disintegrating Co., in Shrewsbury died today at St. Mary’s hospital of burns. He was Everett Criger, 21, of Webster Groves. One man was killed instantly, three others died that night, and a fifth died a week later.
