July 19, AP: “Denver, July 19 (AP)—The Lowry field public relations office said today a military air transport C-47 carrying 10 passengers and a crew of three crashed 10 miles west of Goodland, Kan. The crash, not discovered until this morning, apparently occurred during a severe electrical storm which swept this area Thursday night….Bodies and parts of the plane were scattered for about a quarter of a mile around the scene, in a wheat stubble field three miles west and a mile north of this western Kansas city…All the bodies were burned….
