March 22, AP: “Tokyo, Friday, March 22 – (AP) – The wreckage of an army B-17 Flying Fortress bomber, which was piloted by Maj. Gen. James E. Parker and carried nine other military personnel, has been located on northern Formosa, Lt. Gen. Ennis C. Whitehead announced today. The four-engined bomber, flown by the commanding general of the 20th airforce, had been missing since March 19. The plane left Kinakway airfield near Shanghai that morning on its way to Manila. Its last reported position was 180 miles off the China coast. Reports from Formosa were that the craft was located in a remote area and a ground party is on the way to the scene. Other details were lacking but General Whitehead said identification of the plane was positive….”
