Nov 28, UP: “San Diego, Calif. – UP) — Navy and Coast Guard ships searched the ocean seven miles west of here today for the bodies of seven persona still missing after the crash of a Navy seaplane that took 11 lives. The two-engine Martin Mariner patrol bomber crashed in the sea and snapped in two yesterday only 25 minutes after taking off from the Navy seaplane base at North Island….The Navy said there were three officers and eight enlisted men aboard the seaplane, but only four bodies were recovered immediately. The big plane sank shortly after it plummeted into the water, the Navy said. Names of the victims were withheld pending notification of next of kin.”
