Narrative Information

Grazulis: “WI JUN 4, 1958 1730 20k 110inj 800y 32m F4. ST. CROIX/DUNN — This tornado was the first in a family of four intense tornadoes in NW Wisconsin. It moved E at an average of 52 mph from 4m SW of Woodville, passing lm S of Knapp, and then along the north edge of Menomonie. Three deaths occurred in this early part of the path. The funnel turned to the ENE and devastated the south and east parts of Colfax, leveling dozens of homes and killing at least 15 people. The massive tornado then leveled farm houses before lifting five miles ENE of Colfax. Two people were killed when a car was thrown from Hwy-40, near the end of the path.
