“Operated by the Military Air Transport Service, the aircraft crashed approximately 35 miles (55km) west of Agana Naval Air Station, on the island of Guam, where it had taken off from earlier, on a cargo flight to Clark Air Base, in the Philippines. Around four hours later, floating wreckage was spotted and, subsequently, the bodies of two victims were recovered, but none of the 19 American servicemen aboard (12 passengers and a crew of seven) survived. There were indications of an in-flight fire, the origin of which remained undetermined….” (Gero 1999, p. 74.)
