Oct 1, Associated Press: “Key West, Fla (AP) – Aircraft looking for a Navy patrol plane missing with 10 men aboard found airplane wreckage late Tuesday in the Gulf of Mexico, 22 miles north of Key West. A spokesman said a jet plane from Boca Chica Naval-Air Station here sighted a portion of the nose and other wreckage in the water. No rafts were observed. Crash boats and mine sweepers went to the scene where the debris was sighted. Depth at the spot was estimated at 48 feet. More than 20 planes have been searching for the PV2 twin-engined plane which disappeared at 3:30 p.m. Monday. The patrol plane, based at Brunswick, Maine, Naval Air Station, was on an antisubmarine warfare training operation.” (Post-Register, Idaho Falls, ID. “Navy Plane Wreck Found.” 10-1-1958, p. 28.)
