April 10, UPI: “Naha, Okinawa (UPI) – A U.S. Air Force C130 cargo plane with 11 men aboard crashed into the Pacific Ocean today after takeoff from the Naha Air Base. There were no reports of survivors. Rescue helicopter and boats were dispatched to the crash site but found no survivors. April 12, AP: “Naha, Okinawa (AP) – U.S. Military authorities Sunday called off search operations for 11 persons – including one from Michigan – aboard a C130 Air Force transport plane that crashed into the Pacific off Okinawa Friday. Authorities said the men, all of whom were believed killed in the crash included Capt. Reynold Dryden, pilot, Benton Harbor, Mich. The plane was reported to have crashed into the sea about 20 miles southeast of the main Okinawa island shortly after taking off from a U.S. air base on a routine training flight.
