Narrative Information
Grazulis: “MO-IA JUN 7, 1984 1745 lk l0inj 250y 50m F3. HARRISON, MO/ DECATUR/WAYNE/LUCAS, IA — Moved NE from about 3m WSW of Eagleville, Missouri, crossing into Iowa due south of Davis City and cutting a swath across the Nine Eagles State Park. In Missouri, a man was killed and his wife was injured as their mobile home was destroyed. Farm homes and barns were destroyed. In Decatur County, Iowa, a farm house was destroyed, with one injury, 6m SE of Leon. In Wayne County, buildings were destroyed on at least 17 farms. The tornado destroyed a truck stop and half of a motel at the intersection of US-65 and Hwy-2, 10m W of Corydon. Wayne County losses totaled $1,750,000 and six people were injured there. The funnel turned N at Cambria. Six funnel clouds were sighted aloft in Lucas County. The last stage of this event may have been the funnel sighted aloft, west of Chariton. A piece of a drive-in movie screen from near Cambria was carried to the north and dropped near Derby…. [p. 1259]
“IA JUN 7, 1984 1945 lk 3inj 150y 14m F2. RINGGOLD–Moved E from Mount Ayr to the NW part of Kellerton. Six homes were destroyed and 12 more were damaged. A man was killed as he was trying to seek better shelter than his trailer home. His wife survived, but the trailer was devastated. Only a pile of metal shards and limber remained…. [p. 1259]
“IA JUN 7, 1984 1945 2k 51inj 250y 30m F4. MAHASKA/KEOKUK — Moved NE from NE of Eddyville, passing through and devastating all of the small town of Wright in Mahaska County. All but two buildings in Wright, including all 25 homes, were damaged or destroyed. Losses in Mahaska County were $3,400,000. In Keokuk County, damage totaled $25,000,000, with the worst (near-F5) being in the NW half of Delta and on farms SW of Delta. About 800 hogs and cattle died in Keokuk County, and a couple died when their car was thrown 200 yards. The funnel lifted near South English, and re-formed to the SE as the next event…. [p. 1259]
“WI JUN 7, 1984 2341 9k 200inj 400y 36m F5. IOWA/DANE — Moved NE from south of Ridgeway through Barneveld, to Black Earth and Lodi. About 90% of the town of Barneveld was torn apart. Ninety-three homes were destroyed and 64 were damaged. Seventeen of 18 businesses and public buildings were destroyed and losses in town totaled $25,000,000. Another 24 homes were torn apart between Barneveld and Black Earth, where eight more homes were destroyed.
