[1] We suspect the accuracy of the report of a plane crash fatality in NY related to the hurricane.
[2] As we footnote in the Connecticut breakout we believe this figure to be in error. We can individualize 3 deaths.
[3] Have not been able to substantiate more than three. Believe reporting to be in error and thus do not use.

[10] Cites David Longshore, p. 243. However, our copy of Longshore shows 3 deaths (p. 210). Page 319, on New England hurricanes, notes two in CT and one in NH.) Thus this appears to be in error.
[11] Wikipedia. “Hurricane Gloria.” 6-19-2014 mod. Cites: NCDC. Storm Data, “September 1985,” Vol. 27, No. 9. Perhaps, but we have checked the Aviation Safety Network Database and can find no New England or northeast aircraft fatal incident before, during, or for weeks after the hurricane. The closest was on Oct 11 in Homer City, PA when a Mountain Cir Cargo DHC-6 Twin Otter 200 plane crashed due to pilot error. It is the case that a private twin-engine plane from Miami, FL was forced to make an unscheduled landing and crashed in Herkimer County (nose wheel broke off and both propellers were damaged, but the two men were reportedly uninjured. (Post-Standard, Syracuse, NY. “Gloria’s Winds, Rain Give Area a Soaking,” 9-28-1985, A-7.) Additionally, on Sep 29, a one engine plane with engine trouble was successfully landed in Galway (Saratoga County) NY by a student pilot, but a bruised chin was the extent of the pilot’s injuries and there was no hospitalization. (AP. “Student pilot lands troubled plane in field.” Syracuse Herald-Journal, NY. 9-30-1985, A9.)

The date is from: Associated Press. “Death Toll From Gloria Rises to 15.” Sarasota Herald-Tribune, FL. 9-30-1985, p. 3A, which we assume refers to this death, though the report simply notes that a tree limb hit a man in the head.
