Narrative Information

Jan 10, AP: “Clothes left on a heater sparked a pre-dawn fire Sunday [Jan 9] that filled a southwest Baltimore row house with smoke, killing four children, fire officials said. A woman and three other children were in critical condition.

“The one-alarm fire was reported at 4:27 a.m. at 619 Edgewood St… It took firefighters about a half hour to bring the fire under control.

“The fire started in clothes piled on top of a floor grate for the heater near the stairwell on the first floor… The smoke traveled up the stairs to the second floor, where the woman and children were found. ‘It’s very possible that smoke overcame the family and they never knew what hit them,’ Battalion Chief Hector Torres said. ‘There was no smoke detector in the house, so they never got a warning.’

“All of the residents were unconscious when firefighters arrived and had to be carried out of the house…Two children, Quintin Terrell, 4, and Dominique Glover, 8, were pronounced dead at the scene. Jeannette Glover, 11, and Samuel Terrell, 18 months, died a short time later at Saint Agnes Hospital…Roslynn Terrell, 28; Paul Terrell, 6, and Cedric Terrell, 11, were all in critical condition at the Francis Scott Key Burn Center. Micah Terrell, 3, was in critical condition at the University of Maryland pediatric intensive care unit….
