Sep 26, UPI: “Milwaukee (UPI) – Six persons were killed Saturday when the twin-engine plane they were in crashed moments after takeoff at Gen. Mitchell Field.

“The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office said two of the victims were identified as Carl A. Lindich and his wife, Sojan, of Brown Deer, a Milwaukee suburb. The others were tentatively identified as Joseph P. Betker and his wife, Virginia, of Milwaukee, and Mr. and Mrs. Donald J. Bero of Two Rivers, Wis. Bero was reportedly the pilot.

“The federal aviation administration said the plane was cleared for a flight to Minneapolis.

“The Sheriff’s Department spokesman, Sgt. Robert Mooney, said a witness of the crash, an airport guard, reported the plane rose to about 150 feet, then appeared to go over on its back and nose dive into a grassy area just off the main north-south runway.

“Mooney said the six-seat Beechcraft Baron was recently registered in Wisconsin to a Two Rivers Firm, Mantow Inc. Prior to that the plane had an Illinois registry.

“Four of the plane’s occupants were taken to Johnston Municipal Hospital were they were pronounced dead. The other two victims were pronounced dead at the scene.” (UPI. “Six Killed in Milwaukee Plane Crash.” Wisconsin State Journal, Madison, 9-26-1971, p. 2.)
