Narrative Information

Nov 21, AP: “Washington, Nov. 21 – (AP) — Sixteen Navy officers and men were among the 18 persons killed in the crash of a large U. S. Naval transport plane 30 miles east of Rio De Janeiro on Friday, the Navy reported tonight.  The other victims were an American civilian engineer and  a Brazilian.

 

“The plane burst into flames after the crash the Navy reported, adding that the cause of the accident was not known. Previously it had been announced from Rio that the crash occurred while the plane was enroute from Recife to Rio in a fog. Bodies of the 17 Americans were buried today in Marui cemetery at Niteroi, in accordance with local laws, the Navy said.
