Narrative Information

Mireles: “At a time between 0533 and 0602 EWT, a Consolidated B-24L is presumed to have crashed into the Atlantic Ocean southeast of Morrison Field, West Palm Beach, Florida, killing 14 crew and passengers. The B-24 had taken off from Morrison Field at 0533 EWT on a ferry flight to an undisclosed destination in an active war theater via Borinquen Field, Puerto Rico. The airplane failed to transmit a “Coastal Departure Message” upon leaving the coastal area as required. At 0602 EWT, Morrison Field personnel began calling the airplane for ten minutes but did not receive a reply.”  (Mireles 2006, Vol. 2, July 1943-July 1944, p. 565.)
