Narrative Information

“FL  APR 5, 1925 1315 [time]  5k [killed]  35inj 100y [width]  12m [length] F3  Dade [county] Moved NE from the Everglades, SW of Hialeah, to the shore of Biscayne Bay, about 8m N of Miami. The tornado moved very slowly, about 15mph, and appeared to be stationary for five minutes. The funnel was visible for almost an hour. About 50 homes were damaged or destroyed, but most of the deaths were on a dairy farm. One man died in the destruction of restaurant. The cookstove was thrown 100 yards….” (Grazulis, Thomas P. April 6: “Miami, Apr. 6, (AP)–Four persons are dead and 22 injured as a result of a tornado which swooped out of the Everglades yesterday and struck six miles west of Miami, demolishing buildings at the White Belt Dairy and killing Mrs. Mathilda Schultz, aged 70. The tornado then rose and struck again at Westwood Inn, a roadhouse near Little River killing F. E. Sullivan, Mrs. John T. Simpson and the latter’s eight year old child, the struck Elizabeth Park, wrecking ten houses and after striking in Biscayne Park and demolishing several houses, rose, heading eastward over the Atlantic Ocean.
