Bureau of the Census: “The number of deaths from scarlet fever in 1920 is 4,004, corresponding to a rate of 4.6 per 100,000 population, which is the highest rate since 1914…. The states showing the highest death rates from scarlet fever in 1920 are Delaware (14.7), Wisconsin (9.7), Michigan (8.2), Indiana (7.2), and Ohio (6.6)…. Among the registration cities of 100,000 population or more in 1920 the highest rates are for Akron (26.9), Wilmington (24.31), Springfield [MA] (16.7), Youngstown [OH] (16.3), and Worcester [MA] (12.1).” [Detroit, MI (10.1), Boston (9.5), Rochester, NY (9.4), Syracuse, NY (9.2).] {pp. 25 & 27}
