Narrative Information

June 5, Titusville Herald: “Slippery Rock, Pa. (AP) – Mrs. Daniel Dellich and her niece, Mrs. Larry Bonneti, had just finished buying their five children ice cream cones at a roadside stand. They were on their way back to a relative’s home in Boyers, a rural community of about 400, where the family was having a get together. Their husbands, Daniel, 32, a steelworker, and Larry, 24, a registered nurse, were to meet them there.

“They never made it. A 1966 Pontiac came shooting over a hill on a winding stretch of the dark and desolate road, skidded more than 100 feet and crashed into the car, police said.
Five of the children and their mothers were thrown from the car as it overturned after the violent collision Tuesday night. The only survivors were the 15-month-old son of Mrs. Bonetti, who is listed in serious condition in Youngstown, Ohio, Hospital with a fractured skull, and Raymond Meals, 21, of Rt. 4, Slippery Rock, the driver of the other car. He is listed in guarded condition at Grove City Hospital.

“Police said the Meals car had been involved in a hit-and-run crash in Slippery Rock earlier. They were still investigating the crash Wednesday.

“Police identified the dead as Mrs. Dellich, 28, who was driving the car, her daughter, Denise, 10, and her two sons, Danny, 5, and Geoffrey, 3. Also, Mrs. Bonetti, 22, who lived in Harrisville, her daughter, Christina, 3….” (Titusville Herald, PA. “Six Deaths Caused by Speeding Driver.” 6-5-1969, p. 1.)
