Narrative Information

Gibbs: “Americana, American schooner, 900 tons, went missing with all hands (11 souls) after clearing the Columbia bar, February 28, 1918. She was believed to have foundered in a gale, but no trace was ever found. The Americana was en route to Sydney, Australia, from Astoria, with lumber. This 204-foot vessel was built at Grangemouth, Scotland, in 1892, for Hawaiian interests.”
